January Plant of the Month: Bromeliad

Happy New Year everyone!

Bromeliad Croton ArrangementFor our January plant of the month, we have chosen an interior plant because it’s too cold to even think about going outside unless absolutely necessary. Our plant this month is the bromeliad. Bromeliads are colorful plants that add a bit of a tropical feel to their surroundings.

They come in nearly every color of the rainbow and a variety of shapes and sizes. The unique shapes are one of the things that make bromeliad interesting and a great addition to any plant design. Check out some of the colors below.

However, unlike some green plants, bromeliads only live a few months. They bloom, lose their color and then begin to shoot off “pups” or new growths of the plants that will begin the process anew.

One fun fact about bromeliads is that pineapples are a variety of bromeliad. If you cut off the top of a pineapple and plant it, you can grow a new pineapple. How fun!

We love bromeliads and their versality. We even occasionally use them in floral arrangements and place them with other plants for rentals.

Be sure to return next month for our February Plant of the Month.
